Clinic in Guadalajara: 1

Good morning, I am here giving a clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are having a huge show here today and I wanted to introduce you to a beautiful Spanish sport horse and to show you how wonderful these horses work, how easy and light they are, and also what wonderful temperaments they have. I see so many people in America buying horses that are too big for them. These horses here have some of the best movement now of the horses winning in Dressage, and they aren’t giant. They are perfect for a lady or man. Just look how beautiful the movement is!

I am going to have her go large and show us some lengthening down the long side. Look at the movement in this horse! You can go and compare this to Revelle or Totalis (some of the best horses in the world) and you will see that they look very similar to this. These horses have an amazing temperament and will put up with anything! Once again we see how important it is to let these horses stretch. Just because they have a high neck set doesn’t mean we keep them there. We have to let them stretch so that their backs can develop, then we bring the head and neck back up and then we have a correctly moving horse with a strong back.

This was a horse that was quite nervous when we started him, but he has relaxed beautifully since we’ve turned him loose and let him move. He is doing very nicely! So many horses crank over in the neck in the middle of the neck, when we need them to lengthen out from the base of the neck so that the shoulders can move and the hindquarters can come through. That is why you see this horse forge a little bit. What we are working on with this client is keeping the same trot and go into the trot sitting without losing that movement. Look at how supple this horses’s back is and how much he stays deep underneath the body!

Once again, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride coming to you from Guadalajara this week!

Join me as I post weekly blogs covering many topics relating to Classical Foundation Training. I have intentionally left out the word "dressage" because many people have a negative association with the prevalent "crank and spank" approach or that it is a sport for only those who are afraid to jump.

Dressage as it is meant to be is an understanding of how to best optimize a horse's movement and ability to carry a rider, surely a benefit for any horse, any discipline. It is also important in maintaining your horse's safety, soundness and sanity.
