Etch-A-Sketch

Good afternoon, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and I wanted to show you another one of the horses that we are now working with. This is Carrie Underwood and her horse Etch-A-Sketch. Etch-A-Sketch is just four years old, and just started dressage training with me just a couple of months ago. We are thrilled with this horse and think she has a lot of potential once she fills into herself.

As you can see in the video, she is quite huge and just look at that lofty beautiful trot. She is just now learning to stretch. When we first started her, she had a little break in her third vertebrae, which is why it is so important that we get her all the way out there. You can see sometimes when she accepts the contact that she comes a little bit behind the bridle. That is from the old break, but we are repairing that and she is looking really good!

We are really looking forward to see where this horse goes, I think this will be Carrie’s medal horse and she will have a lot of fun with him. Carrie was a jumper rider and was very successful in her career and is now switching over to dressage. After only a month of working this way, imagine what she will look like in the future. The challenge with this horse is her long long neck and getting her to give us that whole neck and to get it way out in front of her. You can see her amazing over-reach she has when she trots, absolutely beautiful!

Once again, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride. Stay tuned for more of Carrie and her horse Etch-A-Sketch, this is a long term training project. We are looking forward to watching her over the years and watch her develop into a wonderful horse.

Join me as I post weekly blogs covering many topics relating to Classical Foundation Training. I have intentionally left out the word "dressage" because many people have a negative association with the prevalent "crank and spank" approach or that it is a sport for only those who are afraid to jump.

Dressage as it is meant to be is an understanding of how to best optimize a horse's movement and ability to carry a rider, surely a benefit for any horse, any discipline. It is also important in maintaining your horse's safety, soundness and sanity.
