How To Engage Your Horse’s Back
This is a video from an Art2Ride Clinic given by head trainer Will Faerber in Napa, California. Many of the students were learning how to supple, relax, connect and engage their horse’s back for the first time.

Thank you for posting this illuminating, concise and inspiring video!
It is horrific how few ‘horse riders’ – from the local meadow to the equestrian Olympus – have the least idea of how the horse’s back should work.
This video has found its way into Danish horse fora, where it is becoming very popular. So, finger’s crossed that some people have gained some valuable new knowledge.
Thank you!
🙂
How do you teach them to stretch down, exactly…
I love this video. I watch it over and over. But I am curious, my Paint is built downhill and pretty flatnecked with zero withers so she is always on the forehand….she can lift and get under herself tho. Will doing this exercise make this issue better or worse? Thanks!!
This video has helped me so much. I am working with a very talented 16 year old OTTB with a poor top line. I have been in a battle with a few other riders who insist on using draw reins to train. It is very refreshing to have a local trainer who believes in natural training and to find this very informative site to reinforce my view on training. It was refreshing to know that I am not falling behind by using this method and it will take a year to develop a correct topline. Others have sped ahead of me by using artificial aids and I see the problems that are already developing in their horses. Thanks for making this available to beginner trainers like me.
