Hello Art2ride. when you were talking about the collapsed backs in this video, I was thinking about Valegros back that isn’t very straight although he’s truly collected and there’s no “interrupting peak” in his overline. It makes me wonder if that’s just a detail that you’re overseeing in a good equipage, should the back in fact always be perfectly straight or is the importance that the horse can thoroughly keep the back lifted? Even if I look at nuno oliveira and other horses that I think is collected, their backs simetimes have a slope although they never have any edges at all.
Thank you for all your time and patience.
Kindly, Frida

Horses have different conformations so the look is sometimes different. We do the best we can with each one but not all horses are created equally and some have a lot of damage to start with that we have to work around, the important thing is that they lift the back so if you can get that happening the rest will improve in time. Valegros looks like he has been over flexed in the neck for instance but still is light years ahead of the rest of the competition as far as getting his back up.
