Happy New Year: Ginny & Cordel

Hi this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride wishing you all a Happy New Year’s! I am here today with Ginny Walker and her horse Cordel whom you’ve seen in previous videos about correcting over-flexion.

Cordel has just spent three months with us here and I wanted to show you how lovely he is moving now. If you remember from the earlier videos that we took of this horse, he was very over-bent in the neck and curling back and you could clearly see the break in his neck as he traveled. Look how easily he is moving through and stretching forward. As you can see in the video, it doesn’t always go perfect. After the second try he is easily moving through with the contact of the bridle and becoming very light. This is a very big horse by the way, about eighteen hands and a huge mover.

If you go back and compare this video with the one we did eight months ago when he was very curled up, you will see quite a difference. A lot of these big horses get so messed up because they have such a huge stride requiring such an athletic ride, so people tend to shorten them up making them drop their backs and everything falls apart.

Once again, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride with my good friend Ginny Walker and her horse Cordell and Happy New Year!

Join me as I post weekly blogs covering many topics relating to Classical Foundation Training. I have intentionally left out the word "dressage" because many people have a negative association with the prevalent "crank and spank" approach or that it is a sport for only those who are afraid to jump.

Dressage as it is meant to be is an understanding of how to best optimize a horse's movement and ability to carry a rider, surely a benefit for any horse, any discipline. It is also important in maintaining your horse's safety, soundness and sanity.
