This gentle progression makes so much good sense to me!
I have been instructed by talented riders to lengthen in walk and then”take the reins up” in trot/ shorten the reins or “don’t let the horse take up the walk until they are in frame/tell them this is how it is now, don’t
‘allow the horse to just move off with their head down” and I have felt saddened by these instructions:(

It makes so much more sense to develop the athlete …intelligently and Kindly!!

But these remarks have come from experienced riders and have left me entirely conflicted. Help

Join me as I post weekly blogs covering many topics relating to Classical Foundation Training. I have intentionally left out the word "dressage" because many people have a negative association with the prevalent "crank and spank" approach or that it is a sport for only those who are afraid to jump.

Dressage as it is meant to be is an understanding of how to best optimize a horse's movement and ability to carry a rider, surely a benefit for any horse, any discipline. It is also important in maintaining your horse's safety, soundness and sanity.
