Hi Will, thanks for another informative video critique. I have a question about the exercises in this video: you say at one point that the exercise (i think it may have been shoulder in?) does not benefit the horse and I think I understand what you mean by that (that doing the exercise repeatedly, just for the sake of doing it, before the horse is established will not be of much use), however once the exercise in the video is completed the horse stretches and moves better.
Therefore, it appears to me that the exercise does benefit, as the result is a better walk.

My question is:Is there harm in doing a small amount of shoulder fore/in to encourage the horse to loosen and step through?

    Cheers Jk

    Verry good Kathrine !!
I realy like the way you ride this nice horse. Nice seat and good contact with the mouth.
It looks like the horse is a bit straith in the corners but iám sure it will improve during time.

    Greetings from Holland…

Join me as I post weekly blogs covering many topics relating to Classical Foundation Training. I have intentionally left out the word "dressage" because many people have a negative association with the prevalent "crank and spank" approach or that it is a sport for only those who are afraid to jump.

Dressage as it is meant to be is an understanding of how to best optimize a horse's movement and ability to carry a rider, surely a benefit for any horse, any discipline. It is also important in maintaining your horse's safety, soundness and sanity.
