Miracle Update 2
24th July
Hello this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today we are doing an update on the rescue horse Miracle. Miracle has been here with us for about six weeks now, and he has gone from being a nervous uptight horse to standing in the cross ties absolutely beautifully.
We started introducing the saddle to him just this week and he is coming out and stretching out into the contact quite nicely and getting over his back, just like we want him to do. If you look, his coat and whole body has improved already.
The way we work with these young horses is to take them directly out to the arena and never make them stand still in the cross ties until after working, that is why he stands so nicely in the cross ties now. Now he stands perfectly in the …

Miracle: Update 1
7th June
Hello this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today I am giving you an update on the rescued horse, Miracle. It’s about two weeks from our first video where we were just lunging him around in a bridle and just getting him to go around us. Now we are introducing the surcingle with some long side reins so he has something to contact his mouth and get used to carrying a little bit. He is beginning to go around much nicer now and becoming much more civilized in the barn and stable.
When we work young horses like this, especially ones that are unpredictable, the last thing we expect them to do is stand in cross ties. We take them right out of the pen and directly to where they are going to work and then when they are finished working …

Miracle: First Lunge In Ring
24th May
Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today we are lunging Miracle for the first time in an actual ring. We lunged him two days in a round pen with a wall to help us out a little bit.
Today when we brought him out, he was a little fractious when we started, but it only took him about five minutes to settle down. Notice we don’t have any tack on him whatsoever and we are just lunging him in a halter. I just want him to get the idea of going around in a circle. Over the next few weeks, we will start adding tack: surcingle and then a saddle. Of course we will not ride the horse until he has quieted his mouth. We will start with the bridle next time.
As you can see in the video, …
Rescued Horse: Miracle, Introduction
24th May
Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today I want to introduce you to a rescue horse. This is Miracle.
My student Abigail in Las Vegas found this horse that belonged to a man who had him tied to a post and fed him unmercifully. He was skin and bones and had cuts all over his body. He was two years old then and is now four. She bought him from the man, so that she could rescue him and prevent anything else that man would do to him. He has had a little bit of light work over there, but she sent him to us so that we could help him out.
As we pan around and look at Miracle, you can see that he has no topline whatsoever. He isn’t in the bad shape that he was in …

Perhaps: 18 Year Old School Master
22nd May
Hello this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today we are having a look at Perhaps. Perhaps is the first horse that we started video taping with about 10 years ago. Perhaps started out as a difficult horse. Perhaps is now 18 years old and my wife showed her through I1 successfully and has been schooled through Grand Prix. She is now starting to teach some of our students and is a wonderful school master!
Rocky: Introduction
22nd May
Today we are taking a look at a new horse that started with us a couple of weeks ago, Rocky. He was very hollow and very stiff through the neck, but once we were able to unlock his neck and get him stretching, his stride got longer and started to swing. For him, this is excellent! Often horses can move much better than people think they can once they start working over their backs and are allowed to work correctly.

Long Reining: Part 1
3rd August
Hi this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and today we are going to have a lesson on long reining. We have had quite a few comments on our website asking me to do some videos on long reining, so that’s what we are going to do today!
This horse that we are watching in the video is named Claire and she was a horse that had been in pasture for 5 years, basically a green horse that we started training about 3 weeks ago. We started with lunging her. As a prerequisite to long reining you certainly need to have the horse lunging correctly before you even think about starting to long rein. Another consideration here is notice we are in a pen that is completely surrounded. The thing I want to talk about with long reining is it is a very …
Why do you stretch your horses so much?
There is solid reasoning for stretching (long and low, down and forward). To begin the development of the topline a horse needs to be able to counterbalance the riders weight and the lack of development in his back by lowering the neck. Once the horses neck is lowered (not forced or pulled down, and with a light positive contact) it’s back will lift and you will see the stomach muscles engage and the horse’s hind legs will begin the reach deeper underneath .
It is the beginning of the gymnastically improving the horses gaits and way of going. Our FEI horses that have advanced enough that they don’ t need the stretching as a gymnastic exercise as much as a release for the muscles that may become fatigued from carrying themselves in collection and also as a reward for a job …
Why do you lunge with side reins?
Side reins are essential in helping the horses understand the contact with the bit. Lunging is an art in itself, meaning you can teach a horse a tremendous amount about how you expect him to respond when ridden, help the horse to find his balance without having to balance a riders weight, the concept of moving away from inside pressure to the outside rein (which cannot be accomplished without side reins) and horses have a chance to “figure it out on their own” without the interference from a rider. After all, side reins can never pull on the horses mouth like a rider can and the horse can learn to flex correctly. Correct adjustment of the side reins for the level of the horses abilities is crucial and used mostly in the trot. All of the nuances of lunging are …
